The Bowl Championship Series was established in 1998 to help crown the national champion of Division I-A college football. The four bowl games associated with the BCS are the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl. Beginning in the 2006 season, a fifth BCS game has been added, the BCS National Championship Game, which will be rotated annually among the four BCS bowl game cities. For the 2006 season, actually January 2007, the BCS Championship Game will be hosted in Glendale, Arizona, home of the Fiesta Bowl. On January 1, 2007, the Fiesta Bowl will be played in Glendale. One week later, on January 8, the BCS National Championship Game will be played at the same site, but it will not be called the Fiesta Bowl. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, the game will be played in Louisiana, Miami, and Pasadena, respectively. Tickets for the BCS National Championship Game may be purchased through the ticket offices of the two universities who qualify for the game in December. Face value of the tickets is expected to be a little over $200 each, but the fair market value of such tickets may be in excess of $1,000 apiece, depending on which teams make it to the game.
